My question to the no-virus crowd is this: What is Rabies? We know that there must be some thing transmitted because the predictable scenario is very clear;
1) Get bitten by an animal showing strange and unusually aggressive (toward humans) behavior. In the case of dogs, they often are foaming at the mouth.
2) If not treated, humans are near 100% going to die a horrible death.
3) If treated by a course of early vaccination, the first of which (for the rabies vax naive) will contain some human anti-rabies antibodies, the chance of survival is nearly 100%.
